The New Haven Green Party is affilated with the Green Party of the United States. The GPUS is a federation of state green parties.
We are committed to environmentalism, non-violence, social
justice, grassroots organizing, and renewing democracy without the support of corporate donors. We are partners
with the European Federation of Green Parties and the Federation of Green Parties of the Americas.
In
less formal terms, the party is made up of activists who believe that while
working on their own particular issues they must join together to make change
through the political process. Comprehensive change almost always
involves the government and Greens feel that the best way to get the government
to respond is to elect people who are committed to expressly stated solutions
to current problems.
The
key difference between the Green Party and the major parties is that our
candidates run on a platform created by our members. Every Green
candidate is pledged to support the platform, allowing the voter to know
exactly where the candidate stands before they cast their ballot. This idea may seem simple but it seems to
be catching on. Although small, we are the third largest party in the
state. People join the Party just by writing Green on their voter registration cards.
